Designed to work with a Tension Control Bolt assembly, consisting of a twist-off bolt, a nut and a washer. The twist-off bolt is made with a domed head and a spline at the end of the bolt shank. Installing the bolt consists of inserting the bolt through the steel connection, tightening the bolt, nut and washer, as well as all other bolts in the connection. Next, reengage the Tone Shear Wrench and hold the trigger down until the spline snaps off. Shear wrenches have an inner and outer socket. The inner socket engages the spline, while the outer socket rotates the nut, with both sockets twisting in opposite directions, the spline of the bolt shears off, once the appropriate tension level has been achieved. Inspection is performed by visually ensuring that the spline has been snapped off. Twist-off bolts are governed by the ASTM specification F3125-15a and have been endorsed by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the Research Council on Structural Connections (RCSC).
